Why hello there

First post. Me oh my. I'm starting out here with a set of blurry webcam photos, because novice blogger that I am, I am too self conscious to ask anyone to help and don't have a self-time function, but one step at a time.

learning to pose?

shirt: j. crew factory, skirt: forever 21, belt: gap, tights: who knows? shoes: from a free (!) booth at an green fair, but the brand is franco sarto

This outfit actually consists almost entirely of my wardrobe staples. This shirt is my newest obsession...my pictures aren't quite detailed enough to tell, but it is dark chambray with tiny white polka dots, meaning it combines two of my favorite things into one garment. J. Crew factory, if anyone is on the look-out for a truly perfect button up. And it's on sale! A circle skirt and gray tights are basically my uniform for teaching and/or job interviews. And, while most people might think a brown or black belt goes with everything, I've decided that this orangey-pink one does, and I'm sticking with it.

The shoes are probably the best part, though. Not just because I got them for free, but because I love love love the exaggerated stitching and mary jane straps--like somebody drew them instead of sewed them! You can't tell, but they are wedges instead of heels, which means I can actually more-or-less walk in them--always a plus at job interviews. Though I haven't mastered it quite enough to add it to the skills section of my resume.

And there you have it. A start? I think I have a goodwill scavenger hunt planned for tomorrow, so that could yield some interesting finds. (It's actually just a hunt, but now I'm thinking creating a goodwill scavenger hunt could make for a pretty fun shopping party...). Last time I went I found $3 saddle shoes, so the thrifting fates must be on my side!

I'll leave you with a question: best goodwill/thrifting find you've ever made? Much as I love the saddle shoes, mine was actually probably an enormous pair of denim overalls. I don't care how many of my friends insist the drawstring on the front means they are maternity wear, they are just so comfortable.
