Airy

There was one beautiful beautiful day in the city before everything got all rainy, so I got the chance to wear this lovely white dress I got at Goodwill the other day. Still slightly concerned it might have been a mis-filed nightgown, but I'm happy with it all the same.

dress: thrifted, no brand belt: gap, purse: vintage, shoes: merona (swapped), denim jacket: lucky brand jeans

There is something ethereal about a long white dress that makes it impossible not to feel like you are floating. Not in a wedding dress way, just...airy.

Oops.

Sorry, sorry, sorry for the major impromptu hiatus. Hopefully I haven't lost what few of you were reading this. I've been traveling back and forth for interviews and subbing and it's just been very hectic. Anyway, I have a backlog of recipes and outfit photos and things now, but here is one from last week for starters.

dress: h&m, belt: ???, shoes: merona (from a swap), tights: no idea, cardigan: h&m, sunglasses: flea market, earrings: whimsically miscellany, coat: I will check the brand next time I see it.

Blue with polka dots...one of my very favorite things. Does anyone else feel very happy when they wear pops of primary colors?

In other news, I'm hopping on the train for the town wide tag sale this weekend, so anyone near the ct area...selling a bunch of my clothes!

How Can I Pick One Train Pun?

This week, because it was free for local residents, some friends and I...

Rode the steam train! I hadn't done it since I was about eight, and it was actually really nice (not to mention very nostalgic!) We found a car that wasn't too full of toddlers and just sat and chatted and enjoyed looking out the window at the wetlands. I was especially a fan of the faux-vintage ads.

I figured that for a steam train, I'd better opt for vintage inspired. If only I had known that minutes after I left the house, the afternoon rain would come early and the temperature would drop ten degrees...

Dress: Modcloth, On The Job Dress, Shoes: Merona (from a swap), Umbrella: family vintage

We also made a stop to investigate a new pastry place, and visit a parrot named Linus. You know, the Saturday essentials.

Chocolate croissants, talking birds, and old-fashioned trains...all in all a very good Saturday. Anyone have an interesting (or just odd) local attraction in their area?

Pastels

This is the VERY LAST DAY to enter my giveaway of lovely Etsy pieces and a Starbucks card--click here to enter :)!

I'm a bit in love with all the mints and lilacs floating around this spring. It is probably to make up for the fact that I refused to wear dresses or skirts period from age 7 to age 14. Anyway, while I've been in Connecticut I've been picking up a few hours at an old job of mine, ushering at a theater, and since I have to be pretty dressed up for it I decided to have fun.

dress: modcloth, no longer available, shoes: lulu's, mojo moxy, tights: italian brand that I can't find again ANYWHERE which is very sad because these are getting so many holes, necklace: lulu's, earrings: courtesy of the lovely mia over at whimsical miscellany! my new favorites.

I absolutely love these flower earrings! I'd been trying to find the perfect pair for ages and everything looked either a little too big or too small on me, and these are just right. I sound like Goldilocks. But in all seriousness, they are lovely, and come in a bunch more colors. Here is a detail:

Anyway, it has been a quiet week. Lots of running the dogs around, seeing family, job apps, and cooking. I think I am going on a steam train ride and to check out a new pastry shop with friends in the morning,  so that should be fun...I don't think I've been on the steam train since I was about 8!

Rainy Day

3 more days to enter my very first giveaway! Click here for a chance to win beautiful Etsy items and a Starbucks card :)

Though I definitely prefer them to remain in the minority, I do like rainy days. Partly because it's so cozy to curl up with rain drumming on the roof and dripping down the windows. Partly because it gets the song "Singing in the Rain" stuck in my head, and Singing in the Rain is definitely in my top ten movies of all time list (though Bringing Up Baby and Some Like It Hot are up there too, and I've spent more time recently re-watching all three Toy Stories lately than I care to admit, but this is getting off topic). And partly it's because I used to really like to go for long walks in the rain when I was stressed out or had something to think about. It started in high school, and continued through sometime Freshman year of college--after that, I think having to walk to class in the rain took the pleasure out of choosing to walk in the rain. But there was something strangely comforting about walking in a spring rain, soaking wet, and stopping somewhere for hot tea to sip on the way.

Anyway, I appreciate a good rainy day.

dress: h&m (from a swap), tights: leggs, shirt: goodwill, boots: thrifted (etienne aigner), earrings: thrifted, umbrella: family

I really really love this yellow umbrella. It is my mother's from when she was little, and you can still see the part of her monogram that hasn't fallen off over the years. And unlike every umbrella made in the past decade, it never turns inside out and drags me along the sidewalk when it is windy. Lack of umbrella-sailing is always a plus, especially in the city.

Bamboo Blossom's Birthday Giveaway!

I really wanted to write "bash" instead of giveaway, to make it alliterative, but that isn't what's happening. What is happening? I'm participating in the lovely Natasha of Bamboo Blossom's birthday giveaway! Enter to win a ton of cool prizes here, included one of my needle felted penguins in pink (even cold climate birds have to wear their spring pastels.) Enjoy! Natasha has a really awesome blog, and I'm sure you'll love reading it as much as I do :).

After you enter Natasha's giveaway, you can still enter my very first giveaway here. Who knows, maybe you'll get really lucky and win both of them!

Shocking Pink

Shocking pink was the name of a Crayola crayon color that really fascinated me as a small child. It didn't quite match up to my favorite shade, Tickle Me Pink, but I remember feeling really intrigued by the idea that a color could be "shocking." Anyway, it's a rare color for me to go for anywhere outside of a crayon box, but this dress is definitely shocking pink.

dress: modcloth (from a swap, no longer available but was called the everyday dress-up dress), shoes: lulu's, still available in other colors, sunglasses: flea market, necklace: etsy (a gift, so don't know the store), nail polish: essie, shade go ginza

I am very enamored with these shoes right now. I got them with the gift certificate I won in one of Lulu's weekly name-the-dress contests. I wore them to substitute and one of the fourth graders said "FOUR straps? You're wearing shoes with FOUR straps? I can't believe it, Emma. Four straps."

So apparently they are really controversial. But the nail polish completely matches, which is fun.

In completely unrelated news, I saw these napkins today and thought they were really funny. If I had any use for cocktail napkins, these would be the ones. They also had ones with a fan on them labeled, shockingly enough, "fan."

Riveting stuff, I know. It was a quiet day.

Strawberry Girl

Remember to click here and enter my first GIVEAWAY!! Beautiful items from Etsy sellers, plus a little Starbucks!

Actually, Strawberry Girl is the title of a book by Lois Lenski. Did anyone else read that in elementary school? I'm absolutely certain I did, except all I can remember about it at the moment is some sort of pie...

Anyway, the theme of today's outfit is strawberries, which I love nearly as much on clothing as on a plate.

shirt: goodwill (April Cornell brand), skirt: buffalo exchange (handmade), shoes: merona, earrings: thrifted

Another beautiful day! I could have May-June and September-October all year round, I think.
